LOCKING IN DEKTEK TILE WITH ANODIZED ALUMINUM EDGE TRIM
ALUMINUM EDGE TRIM
Using an anodized aluminum edge trim is a great way to lock in DekTek Tile around the perimeter of your deck, as well as stairs. It allows you to have a solid stone deck or steps for those who want to avoid a wood or composite border. With the anodized aluminum edge trim option, you’re also able to bring the tile all the way to the edge and cantilever the tile over the edge for an aesthetic look.
Dimensions/Color: The required size of anodized aluminum angle is: 2 ½“ x ¾ “ or 3” x ¾”. 2-1/2” is the minimum dimension you need. If 3” is available that is even better. Thickness/gauge 1/16” – 1/8”. Anodized aluminum comes in different colors to appeal to personal styles.
Installation on Stairs: Install aluminum angle at deck or stair perimeters using exterior deck screws. Install aluminum angle by cantilevering (hanging) the 3/4” side over edge of the deck to cover the top of fascia board and add an extra ¼” – ½” more. This extra overhang beyond the riser looks better to most than installing it flush with riser.
Installation on Elevated Decks: Generally, you’ll want the aluminum cantilevered over the edge anywhere from ¼” to ½” of the deck. Most commonly it’s cantilevered roughly 3/8”. So for example, if you’re going to be installing the standard ½” thick facia board, then you would need to cantilever the aluminum 7/8” past the framing. This would give you a 3/8” overhang past the installed facia board.
Installation Over Concrete: In most cases when installing DekTek's concrete deck tiles over existing concrete, you'd install the anodized aluminum flush with the edge of the concrete. However, if you plan on running DekTek Tile on the side edge of the concrete as well, then you’d want to cantilever the anodized aluminum by 1-1/4”.
***Please note, if you are using the 3/8" thick pedestal pads, you will need a different size of anodized aluminum edging: 3" x 1" x 1/16" x 10' lengths, or 3" x 1-1/8" x 1/16" x 10' lengths.
DekTek Tile Stocked Anodized Aluminum Options:
For convenience, DekTek Tile stocks anodized aluminum angles: 3" x 3/4" x 1/16" x 10' lengths. We offer 2 colors - natural aluminum color and dark bronze. Please note, anodized aluminum is not included in DekTek's free shipping (customers are responsible for the difference in shipping cost.)
On elevated deck installs, here’s the breakdown of each dimension for DekTek's stock anodized aluminum angles: 3" x 3/4" x 1/16" x 10’ lengths:
- The ¾” dimension is the vertical leg that locks the tiles in and allows for the top ¼” of the tile to show, giving that aesthetic reveal.
- The 1/16” dimension is the thickness of the aluminum.
- The 3” dimension is the part of the angle the tiles sit on and gets fastened to the framing.
- 10 foot is the length of the aluminum angles. (Due to the long lengths of the aluminum angles, they exceed standard freight dimensions which require additional charges which are passed along to the customer. Please reach out to our team for a freight quote.)
